John Herkowitz

img49a2dcb4e32c0John Herkowitz has won many awards and honors for his skeet shooting abilities. Born in Detroit Michigan, John went to high school in Detroit, then headed to California for college at California State Los Angeles and received a degree in criminal justice. His first experience with shooting clay targets was in 1988 when his college professor invited him to go shooting trap at night at the South Coast Gun Club. After that first target came out under the lights, he was hooked and has been shooting ever since. He took a couple of lessons from Bill Skinner at the Pachmayr Gun Club. He broke his first 100 straight in 1991 and to date has shot more than 125,000 registered targets.

John started winning a lot of shoots, including:

  • 1996 Golden Pacific 28 gauge Champion.
  • 1997 Zone 7 Doubles Champion and World Skeet 28 gauge 3rd.
  • 1998 Comstock Doubles Champion, Masters 28 Gauge Champion and Briley Blue Goose .410 Champion.
  • 1999 Pan American 12 gauge Champion, North-South 20 gauge Champion and World Skeet Champion of Champions Runner Up.
  • 2000 Federal Classis HOA Champion with 400 x 400, World Skeet AAA1 410
  • 2001 Masters C of C Champion.
  • 2002 Zone 7 .410 Champion, Mini World 12 gauge R/U and Kachina Open HOA Champion.
  • 2003 California State 12 gauge Champion, .410 bore Champion and HOA Champion,
  •  Zone 7 .410 Champion and HOA Champion with 500 x 500.
  • 2004 Hillbilly Open 400 x 400 for HOA R/U., California State HAA Champion, Zone 7 HAA Champion, Pan American HOA Champion, and World Skeet 20 gauge AAA-1.
  • 2005 Pan American HOA R/U, Motor State HAA Champion with 500 x 500, HOA 3rd with 400 x 400 and Doubles AAA-1, Zone 7 12 Gauge Champion and Doubles R/U Champion.

John made the NSSA All American Open Second Team 5 times between 1999 and 2005 and in 2000 made the Triple Sub-Senior First Team. He was on the Zone 7 All Star Open Team every year from 1996 to 2005. He was placed on the California State team every year from 1995 thru 2004.

He worked for 15 years for the Los Angeles Police Department and is now retired and owner of Pacific Sporting Arms in Azusa, California.

For his superior shooting ability and dedication to the sport of skeet shooting JOHN HERKOWITZ is awarded a place in the Zone 7 Skeet Hall of Fame.
