FRED E. RIPLEY

FRIPLEYFred Ripley was introduced to skeet in 1969 by past NSSA president and world champion, Walt Badorek.  Shooting practice at the local Klamath Fall, Oregon gun club to get ready for dove season, Fred became hooked on the game and shot his first registered targets the next year. He became the club skeet chairman not to soon after and went on to become club secretary, then vice-president and finally its president.

Not staying on the local level for long, Fred started shooting all over the state of Oregon, Zone 7 and the skeet world.   Fred became an accomplished shooter making the Oregon teams honoring high average shooting and all-star honors many times.  Fred inducted into the Oregon State skeet Hall of Fame in 1987.

But shooting honors aside, the real accomplishments of Fred come on the volunteer side of the sport on the state, Zone 7 and national levels.  Fred has served many years as president of the Oregon Skeet Shooting Association,  state shoot chairman, and on its Hall of Fame Committee.  Fred was the NSSA director from Oregon for 12 years before moving on to the Zone level.

Fred was on the original organizing committee that formed Zone 7 in 1976.  Fred served as Zone 7 executive committeeman for 8 years.  Fred was the Zone 7 shoot chairman for over 20 years, shoot chairman of four U.S. Opens, and has served on so many committees on the Zone level that they are too many to mention.  But Fred had an idea.  Why not have a Zone 7 Hall of Fame as does NSSA and many states.  Fred worked tirelessly to see this come to pass, and in 1990, the first inductions to the Zone 7 Hall of Fame were made.  The Zone 7 Hall of Fame travels to the Zone 7 championship shoot site each year and has been displayed at world shoots in Savannah and San Antonio.

On the national level Fred was a prominent individual on many committees.  Besides being the Zone 7 executive committeeman, Fred served for 10 years as a member of the world shoot committee and was several times world shoot chairman.  Fred served on the All-American selection committee for fourteen years and the classification committee for 5 years.  He has been named to NSSA sub-sub-senior teams and has garnered many honors in his long shooting career.  Fred has attended over 20 world shoots.

For shooting accomplishments and outstanding support, dedication and promotion of the sport of skeet shooting, Fred Ripley is awarded a place in the Zone 7 Hall of Fame.
