HUME LARSEN

HLARSENHume Larsen of Oakhurst, California, served from 1956 to 1978 as the editor of The Skeeter, the official publication of the Northern California Skeet Shooting Association. In 1980 Larsen was recipient of the Ray Boller Award. Larsen has been a dedicated skeet shooter since 1948 when he and his wife, Opal, first took up the game. In the early 1950’s, the Larsens were credited with more registered targets in a two‑year period than any other husband and wife team. Larsen was elected in 1951 as the director of NOR‑CAL ‑ a position he held for 27 years. In 1952 he was elected to the first of five two year terms as a NSSA National Director and helped to build and operate the Fresno Skeet and Trap Club. After merging with Kerman Trap Club to become the Fresno County Gun Club, Larsen served as president from 1961 to 1973. In 1965 Larsen, Alex Kerr and Dr. Henry C. Rosentiel helped to combine NOR‑CAL and the Southern California Skeet Shooting Association into the California Skeet Association (CSA).

Besides Larsen’s involvement with the Fresno club, Norcal, The Skeeter, the CSA and the NSSA, he and his wife were both avid shooters. He competed until 1967. He attended all Northern California and Nevada shoots and many in Southern California. In addition to his reporter’s duties, he would shoot the program, visit with shooters, and talk with and encourage or help the young and new skeet shooters. Hume Larsen has done more to promote skeet shooting in this part of the country than any other individual.
