Benjamin Dilorio, Jr

BDILORIOBenjamin Dilorio, Jr., of Chatsworth, California, held the world record long run of 665 in the 20 gauge for many years. Dilorio, who shot his first skeet targets as a two‑man team partner with his father, set the standing 20 gauge record in 1958, 1959, 1960 and 1961. He accumulated a 12 gauge long run of 1000 and quit shooting. Dilorio broke into big time skeet as a junior. His first big year was 1949 when he won the junior titles at the Great Eastern and the New York State Championships and was captain of the Junior All America Team. The next year, at age 18, he won the world 20 gauge championships, his first of nine, and finished second in the all‑around. In 1949 Dilorio won the .410 gauge and Champion of Champions titles; in 1951 he won the 28 gauge; in 1952 and 1954 the collegiate titles; and in 1955 and 1957 the 20 gauge.

In addition to his world championships, Dilorio was a major winner at the Great Eastern, Canadian Open, the New York State Championships (where he won the all‑around event five times in eight years), the California State Championships, Western Grand, Great Western, and Western Open. He led the national 20 gauge 20 gauge high average in 1956 with .981 on 700 targets and in 1957 with .990 on 800 targets and the national all‑around average in 1957 with .980 on 3100 targets. Dilorio was a member of the Sports Afield All‑America Team 10 times, serving as co‑captain in 1958.
