ANDY LAIRD

ALAIRDAndy Laird has won over 600 trophies and awards. Born in Elsinor, California on February 10, 1910, Laird moved with his family to Stockton in 1920 and 10 years later bought a farm there. The next year, he took up outboard motorboat racing and went on to win over 50 first place trophies and set six world records. He hunted ducks in California, and when he heard about skeet shooting, he decided to try it. That was in 1951. Two years later he won the Northern California 12 gauge championships, He started working his way up through the ranks of nationally known shooters. By 1959, he was Champion of Champions at the NSSA nationals in Lynnheaven, Virginia. His record remained strong for another nine years, and he collected 15 national and world championships, 32 all‑around championships, 13 California state championships, and 24 Northern California championships. Eight times he was named to the Sports Afield All‑America Team. Laird began decreasing his shooting in 1968, but continued to shoot and in 1973 registered targets in three guns and had an average of .970 in the 12 gauge.
