MIKE PELKEY

MPELKEYMIKE PELKEY started skeet shooting in 1958 at the young age of 10 at the Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino, California. When he turned 12, he started entering registered tournaments and it wasn’t long before he was one of the foremost junior shooters in the United States. He was named to the NSSA All-American Junior Skeet Team three times. Along the way he won numerous junior and open titles on the local, state, and national levels.  Wins to his credit include five California State open and five-state runner up titles. He is a great shooter and has set or tied 38 world record scores. A highlight of his shooting career is being on the five man team that set the 410 world record at the World Shoot in 1966 and again in 1972 and on the team when they set the 20 gauge World record in 1968. Mike was the NSSA high average leader in the 28 gauge in 1969 and junior high average leader 5 times. A major accomplishment is his over 100 major wins within Zone 7 and in other states. He has garnered many medals in the California, Nevada and national Police Olympics, and was named to the Zone 7 Skeet All Star team for five years.

 

During his time away from the skeet field Mike managed to attend college, Law School, become a National Director, Zone Director and serve on the California State Skeet Board for eight years. He was the founder of the Zone 7 All-Star teams and furnished the awards for the first six years. Mike was the driving force behind the founding of the California State Skeet Hall of Fame and was inducted into the California Hall of Fame in 1990.  He was selected for the NSSA All American Open Team on three occasions.

 

Mike lives in Lake Arrowhead, California with his family and is a detective for the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department. For his dedication to the sport and superior shooting ability MIKE PELKEY is awarded a place in the Zone 7 Skeet Hall of Fame.
