D. LEE BRAUN
D. Lee Braun was born January 11, 1911, in Houston, Texas. Shortly thereafter he moved to Milano, Texas where he spent most of his childhood. He graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1934 and became a representative for the Remington Arms Company in Dallas.
Braun won more combined clay‑bird championships than any other shooter of his time ‘and instructed hundreds of shooters in his 33 years of active service at the traps. Braun’s greatest victory came at Syracuse, New York, in 1947 when he dropped four targets in his first 33 in the .410 race. He then proceeded to powder his last 67 straight. He followed with 100’s in both small guns and 250 straight in the 12 gauge to set an all‑time record of 546 out of 550, which he tied 14 years later at Reno, Nevada. Braun set a high average record of .9960 on 1,025 12 gauge targets in 1941.
In 1942 he enlisted in the Army but was later transferred to the Air Corps at Larado AFB where he was range officer in charge of the flexible gunnery range. Afterward, he returned to Remington and won the world professional all‑around 12 gauge titles seven times and the 20 and .410 gauge five times.
He was named on 199 All‑America teams, was captain eight times, and was co‑captain once.
