ALEX KERR
Alex Kerr of Beverly Hills, California held the best World Championships record for many years ‑ ‑ starting in 1941 through to 1964, when he won 16 titles. Known for his superb .410 shooting, Alex set the World Championships record of 99 when he won the title in 1941. The record stood for 18 years.
In his skeet career, he led the all‑around championships three times in the 28 and .410 gauge and twice in the 12 and 20 gauge. In 1955 he finished highest in the country in the 12 gauge with a .995 on 1000 targets, in the 28 gauge with .976 on 500 targets and a .970 in a total of 2600 targets for the all‑around. In 1950 he set a 10‑year record in the .410 gauge with 600 targets.
At any one time in Alex’s shooting career, he held the long‑run records in all events. He was named to the Sports Afield All‑America team 16 times and was captain 4 times. Equally as impressive as his shooting contributions to skeet have been his years of service. He was founder of NSSA and was vice president when it was organized in 1947. He served as president from 1960 to 1964 and was a member of the Board of Directors for many years. He was recipient of the 1971 Ray Boller Award.
